Time to respond

For a long time now, I have been wanting to join the Ambulance Service as a Community First Responder. Yet with my commitments with University and those with St John, I have not had the oppertunity to apply for such a role.

Considering that I finish my ODP training in a couple on months, and that I seem to be getting more involved with St John, I have decided that there is no better time that now to apply for the role.

Seeing as I know most of the team anyway, I turned up on their meeting night to see how it all works. I have subsequently handed my application form in, looked for various grants to allow the scheme to buy new items of equipment and even designed their website (http://www.communityresponse.org.uk).

The next step is to sit tight and wait…and wait a bit more! Eventually, I should have an interview and a medical exam (which should be easy because of my current role in the Health Service. Then after a bit more waiting, I should be able to do my training.

Then I will eventually get my mobile and jacket, and with any luck a responder kit with oxygen and a defibrillator. Then, in a few months time I will be able to book on and look after my local community.

Thats all for now. Take care…

Where have I been?

Well…this blog has been a bit of a mystery lately, its not that I am not interested, rather than I have been busy. University is going well, been somewhat inundated with assignments, and I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel!! :)

It also appears that I have had a bit of downtime, something to do with the servers – not sure what went on there either!

I am around on twitter if you want to contact me anytime soon :) http://www.twitter.com/tomdimmock

Applying for a Job

I write this, as I apply for a job as an ODP for when I qualify in September. At the minute, I am looking for a move closer to home, not only to cut down travel costs, but also to enable me to cover shifts etc. (It will also mean more time sleeping!)

I have just seen an group of private hospitals who will offer at least 33 days of holiday (incl. Bank Holidays) and private health insurance! I don’t plan on using it, but it is worthwhile :)

If anyone knows of any other ODP jobs in the South East/South region, drop me a message and I will check it out!

Well, hello there. has it really been nearly a year since I last blogged as TomDimmock? I have decided to bring back the blog, and make my entire site look generally more personal.

I will do some blogging soon, I promise.

3 Broadband

Right…I know I was going to be posting about my camera, but I havn’t had time yet.

I have been having real problems when it comes to using the Internet in Bournemouth. The Internet that I am paying for simply doens’t work (would have phoned them up this week when I got back to uni – however didn’t make it and ended up in A&E after a crash on the A31)

I have, therefore, gone out and bought one of these USB Internet thingy-ma-bobs. I was looking round various companies which offered roughly 3GB for £15 per month. Then I noticed an offer from 3, saying if you took out a 24 month contract, you get 15GB for £15 a month.

So far it works like a dream. The software was really easy to install on the Mac, all you had to do was put the USB modem in and it installed automatically. I then, only have to plug the modem in, when I need it, and click connect in the 3Connect software. There are a couple of places I can’t use it – but not always a problem as it works if I move slightly, like nearer a window tends to work.

Havn’t had chance to test it at uni yet, due to the incident, but hope to be back next week!! That’s enough from me for some time…well, until the next post!!!

Qumana Update

As I mentioned once upon a time, I downloaded a desktop blogging application called Qumana. This enables me to update my blog whilst offline – and then publish it later.

Qumana updated the software to version 3.2.3 which has greater usability for WordPress (hence me downloading it…although I am yet to work out what!). It also has greater support for API’s, is compatible with Vista and now supports Linux.

Wordle

I have decided to make another "Wordle" of my posts. Wordle creates word clouds of posts and comments or even random text you enter into the generator. The larger the text, the more often the word features in blog posts and comments.
